Abstract
Objective: To detect the expression of MMP16 and to investigate its roles in the formation, development and clinical significance of human pancreatic carcinoma. Methods: Immunoblot was utilized to detect the expression of MMP16 in 8 paired pancreatic carcinoma and adjacent non-tumorous tissues; immunohistochemical staining was used to detect the expression of MMP16 in 49 pancreatic carcinoma tissues; the relationship between MMP16 and the clinical pathological factors was analyzed. Results: Immunoblot proved that the expression of MMP16 protein in pancreatic carcinoma was higher than that in matched adjacent non-tumorous tissues (8/8); immunohistochemical staining demonstrated that the expression rate of MMP16 in pancreatic carcinoma was 85.7%, significantly higher than that of normal group (9.1%), the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). the positive expression of MMP16 was closely related to the degree of differentiation, clinical stages and lymph node metastasis There were significant differences among the groups (P<0.05). Conclusion: MMP16 is overexpressed in human pancreatic carcinoma, and may play an important role in the carcinogenesis and progress of pancreatic carcinoma.
