Objective: To explore the effect of chemotherapy assisted with Jianpi Quyu decoction (with the medical effect of strengthening spleen function and removing blood stasis) in the treatment of advanced gastric cancer on the improvement of symptoms and side effects. Methods: The clinical data of 84 patients with advanced gastric cancer treated in our hospital between January 2013 and December 2014 were reviewed. The patients were, according to the different treatments given, divided into two groups (each with 42 cases), where the control group was treated with the chemotherapy only, whereas the study group was given chemotherapy plus Jianpi Quyu decoction for treatment. The clinical curative effects of the two groups were compared. Results: The recent total clinical efficiency in the study group was 88.09%, higher than that in the control group, which was 69.05%, and the incidence of each toxic and side reactions in the study group was lower than that in the control group (P<0.05). The life quality of patients in both groups after treatment was significantly improved, and the improvement in the study group was more obvious, with statistically significant differences both between groups and in group (P<0.05, P<0.01). Conclusion: Chemotherapy assisted with Jianpi Quyu Decoction is with positive effect on the improvement of symptoms and side effects for the treatment of advanced gastric cancer. Moreover, it can effectively improve the life quality of the patients.
