Abstract
Objective: To compare the efficacy of Emax high inlay and quartz fiber post combined with all-ceramic crown in the repair of large-area tooth defects. Methods: A total of 200 patients (200 teeth) who underwent large-area tooth defect repair in the Department of Stomatology, First Medical Center of PLA General Hospital from January 2018 to January 2020 were randomly divided into an Emax high inlay group and a quartz fiber post group, with 100 cases in each group. Patients in the Emax high inlay group were repaired with Emax restoration system of computer aided design and manufacturing (CAD/CAM), and patients in the quartz fiber post group were repaired with quartz fiber post and all-ceramic crown. The curative effect, repair success rate, complication rate, color matching rate, satisfaction, periodontal probing depth (PD), sulcus bleeding index (SBI), plaque index (PLI), and other indicators of the 2 groups were compared. Results: One year after the repair, the repair success rate of the Emax high inlay group (94%) was higher than that of quartz fiber post group (85%); the incidence of complications in the Emax high inlay group (1%) was significantly lower than that in the quartz fiber post group (9%), while the color matching rate in the Emax high inlay group (99%) was significantly higher than that in the quartz fiber post group (93%) (all P<0.05). There was no significant difference in periodontal related indexes between the Emax high inlay group before and 1 year after the repair (P>0.05). The periodontal related indexes such as PD, SBI, and PLI in the quartz fiber post group before and after the repair were increased compared with those before the treatment (all P<0.05). The indexes of PD, SBI, and PLI in the quartz fiber post group 1 year after the repair were (2.85±0.71) mm, 0.51±0.13, and 1.46±0.35, respectively, which were significantly higher than (2.54±0.64) mm, 0.45±0.14, and 1.24±0.32 in the Emax high inlay group (all P<0.05). Conclusion: In the repair of large-area tooth defects, Emax high inlay is more effective than quartz fiber post combined with all ceramic crown, with higher patient satisfaction, which is more conducive to the maintenance of tooth tissue and periodontal health.
