Objective: To assess the effects of anxiety and depression on the quality of life in patients with epilepsy. Methods: A total of 194 patients with epilepsy were recruited, and a cross-sectional survey design was conducted by using electronic questionnaire which contains questions covering demographic factors, the condition of epilepsy, medication compliance, depression, anxiety, and quality of life. The ordered probit regression was performed to evaluate the effects of factors on the quality of life in patients with epilepsy. Results: The prevalence of depression and anxiety is high in patients with epilepsy, and the quality of life in patients with epilepsy with anxiety/depression or not is significantly different. Regression analysis showed that anxiety and depression had significant negative effects on the quality of life in patients with epilepsy. Conclusion: More attention should be paid to the psychological status of patients with epilepsy to improve the quality of life in patients with epilepsy. Early notice and early intervention of anxiety and depression is important for the quality of life in patients with epilepsy.
