(OR=0.778,95%CI 0.609~0.993;OR=0.657,95%CI 0.435~0.990)。

Abstract

Objective: To explore the correlation between salt intake (24 h urine sodium) and peripheral neuropathy (DPN) of diabetes. Methods: A total of 1 368 type 2 diabetic patients were enrolled into this study. Sodium intake was detected by measuring 24 h urinary sodium. Rank sum test and logistic regression was used to analyze the correlation between salt intake and diabetes peripheral neuropathy. Results: 24 h urinary sodium (salt intake) and duration of diabetes were risk factors for diabetes peripheral neuropathy (P<0.05), and diastolic blood pressure (DBP) ≥80 mmHg and fasting C-peptide (specifically C-peptide >3.3 group) were protective factors for DPN (OR=0.778, 95%CI 0.609–0.993; OR=0.657, 95%CI 0.435–0.990). The risk of diabetes peripheral neuropathy in the group with 24 h urinary sodium 123.84~206.81 mmol and the group with 24 h urinary sodium >206.81 mmol was 1.607 (OR=1.607, 95%CI 1.213–2.129) and 1.506 (OR=1.506, 95%CI 1.135–1.998) times of that in the group with 24 h urinary sodium <123.84 mmol, respectively. Conclusion: Salt intake is a risk factor for peripheral neuropathy in type 2 diabetic patients.
