Abstract
Objective: To Explore the relationship between obstructive Sleep apnea hypopnea syndrome (OSAHS) and depression. Methods: Physical examination, Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), Epworth Sleepiness Scale (ESS) and a polysomnography test were performed in 80 patients with OSAHS and 28 healthy controls. Results: There was statistically insignificant in age, education years, course, smoking, drinking between control group and OSAHS group (P>0.05), but body mass index (BMI), apnea hypopnea index (AHI), desaturation dip rate, minimum saturation, average saturation, the longest time of apnea of OSAHS was significantly (P<0.05), there were significant differences in ESS, BDI (P<0.05); in addition, incidence of depression was 38.75% in OSAHS group, and significantly higher than those in the control group (28.57%). In the same time, there was a correlation between depression and BMI. Conclusion: OSAHS can increases the depression rate, the incidence of depression significantly higher when OSAHS is more server, BMI may be a factor in depression.
