Abstract
The intestinal flora is a complex microbial community formed by trillions of human microbial cells in the gastrointestinal tract. Nowadays, it has been reported that the intestinal flora is closely related to cardiovascular disease (CVD). Moreover, trimethylamine N-oxide (TMAO), a metabolite derived from intestinal microorganisms, has been widely shown to augment the risk of developing hypertension, coronary atherosclerotic heart disease (CHD), heart failure (HF), and atrial fibrillation (AF).
