Abstract
Objective: To study the expression of fibroblast activation protein α (FAP-α) and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) in ovarian cancer and their relationship with tumor invasion and metastasis. Methods: We used immunohistochemical technique to detect the expression of FAP-α and VEGF in 80 cases of ovarian cancer tissues and 30 cases of normal ovarian tissues, and analyzed its relationship with clinicopathological features. Results: There were statistically significant differences in the expression of FAP-α and VEGF between ovarian carcinoma and normal ovarian tissues (P<0.05); the expression of FAP-α was main in cancer-associated fibroblasts but VEGF was in cancer cells, both of them were associated with differentiation degree, Figo stage, depth of tumor invasion, and lymph node metastasis (P<0.05), but had no obvious relationship with ages and histological types. Positive correlation of FAP-α and VEGF protein expression was found in ovarian carcinoma. Conclusion: FAP-α and VEGF play an important role in the evolution of ovarian cancer, and will provide new idea and target for the treatment of ovarian cancer.
