Objective: To investigate the current clinical situation of the positive psychological capital in young patients with breast cancer and the copying modes, and to discuss the correlation between them. Methods: A total of 117 young breast cancer patients were selected via convenience sampling. Patients’ general situation questionnaire, Positive Psychological Capital Questionnaire (PPQ), and Medical Copying Modes Questionnaire (MCMQ) were applied to investigation. The correlation between the positive psychological capital and the coping modes was analyzed and discussed via Pearson correlation analysis and multiple linear stepwise regression analysis. Results: The score of positive psychological capital in young patients with breast cancer varied from 56 to 155, and the average score was 103.66±19.68. The score of avoidance coping was evidently higher than the domestic norm; the score of confrontation coping was evidently lower than the domestic norm; the differences were of statistical significance (P<0.05). As indicated by the results of Pearson correlation analysis, the total score of positive psychological capital and the scores of all dimensions were negatively correlated with yield coping (r: −0.489 to −0.381, P<0.01), and positively correlated with confrontation coping (r: 0.343 to 0.402, P<0.01). As indicated by the results of multiple linear stepwise regression analysis, psychological capital had independent negative influence on yield coping (R2=0.241, P<0.01), and had independent positive influence on confrontation coping (R2=0.124, P<0.01). Conclusion: The positive psychological capital in young patients with breast cancer is relatively poor, and the patients prefer confrontation coping method. Positive psychological capital is closely correlated with the coping methods. Therefore, to improve the positive psychological capital is conducive for patients to take positive coping modes against illness and avoid the yield coping mode.
