Actuality of treatment of muscle atrophy in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is not only a disease limited to the airway and lung, but also a systemic disease involving extrapulmonary organs, the extrapulmonary effects including cardiovascular disease, anxiety and depression, skeletal muscle atrophy. Skeletal muscle atrophy seriously impact patients’ life quality and prognosis, which cause huge social and economic burden. However, the inherent adaptability of muscle tissue offers therapeutic opportunities to tackle muscle atrophy. Appropriate interventions can reverse or delay the development process of skeletal muscle atrophy.
